Finding The Right Finish For You

If you already know your RAL colors, that's great! But often times, prospective builders are not sure where to start and that's okay! We're here to help. RAL numbers are a color matching system used to define colors for paint, coatings and plastics.

Powders do not just add color, they can also add textures like veins,  hammered metal and various other roughly patterned effects. Some create depth with colorations, gloss, reflective materials and other forms of illusions.

Be mindful of your selections however as they may have unintended results. Translucent finishes, for instance, can look amazing but can also show the enclosure's surface under the powder. Any scratches or discoloration on raw enclosures will be visible through the powder coat. Some finishes might look amazing but can present issues with printed colors or the printing process in general. Try to be as descriptive as possible regarding your ultimate goal.

Below are some of the most widely known powder color suppliers and you can browse through their catalog to find the color that is right for you. Just click on the logo that calls to you the most. If we do not already have it in-house, you can order swatches from these suppliers to help you determine which colors to choose.

What is Powder Coating?

Powder Coating is a non-toxic, dry finishing process where an electrical charge is used to cause a dry polymer resin powder to fuse to the surface of a metal. This process of application is also called electrostatic spray deposition (ESD). This is then baked in a curing oven, producing a layer of protection that is much more durable than conventional paint.

The vast majority of enclosures are manufactured from aluminum alloys which allow for higher temps when curing the powders. All of our in-house enclosures are die cast aluminum and work perfectly with powder coats. Most of the guitar pedal industry employs this process for their finishes. These powders can be combined to produce multiple textures, finishes and colors.
